Our kids participate in a lot of extra-curricular activities through the Issaquah Parks & Rec; they have great, affordable programs. Eli has been involved in several different sports programs & classes there and has always enjoyed them. In the past he has chosen basketball, soccer, and t-ball, but this Fall he wasn't interested in any of those. Instead he chose to join the Issaquah Gliders running club. This is something he'd been interested in before, but hadn't yet met the age requirement. He has enjoyed his first few practices, especially loving doing hurdles! (The hurdles were really cute; pvc pipes attached to cones, varying in height around 12-24" off the ground). The last Sunday of September, the Gliders hosted Eli's first ever cross country meet! They did a great job running it, even creating a Tot Dash for younger siblings that wanted to join in the fun. Abby was really excited that she got to race, too! Here she is getting ready for the easy 50 yard dash for the little ones.
She was a little slow off the start line, because when we have races at home we always say "Ready, set, go!" She didn't know how to respond to "Ready, set..." followed by a whistle!
Crossing the finish line...
And showing off her blue ribbon!
Next was Eli's race. I loved that they broke up the ages, making the race less intimidating for the little ones. Eli was excited for his half mile race.
And he's off!
The final stretch...
Fifth place in the 6 & Under boys category - and so proud!
Happy runners showing off their ribbons.
It was super fun to watch them both enjoy this experience so much! What a blessing that our kids enjoy being active; hopefully this is just the beginning of an active, healthy lifestyle for both of them.
